What Is Suction Curettage Abortion?

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Step 1: Pre-Procedure Preparation

Medical History Review—We will go over your health history to ensure you are a candidate for the procedure.
Ultrasound (Sonogram) & Lab Testing—Confirms gestational age and checks for any health concerns.
Consultation with the Doctor—The physician will meet with you to discuss the procedure and answer any questions.

Step 2: The Procedure

Anesthesia & Pain Management:

  • A local anesthesia is administered into the vein (IV sedation).
  • A cervical block is used to numb the cervix for additional comfort.

  • The doctor gently dilates the cervix.
  • A small suction device removes the pregnancy from the uterus.
  • The procedure is completed in 5-7 minutes.

Step 3: Recovery & Discharge

Immediate Recovery: You will spend 30-45 minutes in the Recovery Room, where our medical staff will monitor your vital signs.
Post-Procedure Instructions: Our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Discharge: Once stable, you will be discharged to your pre-arranged driver (required for those receiving sedation).

How Long Will the Visit Take?

Mild cramping & bleeding—Similar to a heavy period, lasting a few days to two weeks.
Pain ManagementIbuprofen (800 mg) can help alleviate discomfort.
Rest & Hydration—Avoid strenuous activities for 24-48 hours.

Follow-Up Care

✔ A follow-up exam (included in the procedure cost) is recommended in 3-4 weeks.
✔ If you experience
severe pain, excessive bleeding, or signs of infection, call us immediately.
